Beginning Drawing

AGES 16+

This class will introduce students to basic drawing skills, techniques, and media. The focus will be on drawing from observation and enjoying the process! Learn to translate what you see through the language of drawing. No experience necessary. If you have always wanted to learn to draw, but have been too afraid to try, leave your fears at home and come see what you can do! If you like drawing but need to brush up on the fundamentals, there is no time like the present.

Students should bring:

Pad of drawing/sketch paper, at least 11 x 14”

3 graphite drawing pencils (HB, 2B, and 8B or “Ebony” pencil)

Erasers: Kneaded “gummy” eraser, white rubber eraser, pink pearl type

Pilot Precise Black Rollerball pen (or similar rollerball or gel type pen)

Pencil sharpener

Cara Romano

Cara Romano is a mixed media artist who grew up in Oberlin, but now Iives in Cleveland. She currently teaches at Cuyahoga Community College in addition to FAVA. She has her MFA in Sculpture/Expanded Practice and her MA in Art History from Ohio University, and she did her undergraduate studies at The University of Chicago, where she earned a BA in Visual Arts. scholarships & aid

FAVA reviews and considers all application for scholarship assistance. While we may not be able to provide a complete scholarship to all those who request it, we are committed to making our classes available to as many people as possible – regardless of individual financial circumstances. For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:

  • Annual family income
  • Individual or special circumstances
  • Whether the applicant qualifies for the National Free/Reduced Price School Lunch program
    (for students age 18 & younger)


**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.

All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
