Every quilt, like anything else that’s handmade, has a story, but the relationship between stories and quilts has always been particularly strong. Sometimes a quilt can represent more of a personal story—a reminder of a person, or a special occasion like a wedding or a birth. Other times it can tell the story of a place. In this 2-day workshop, students will create a small quilt utilizing a placemat as the batting. The first day, students will plan and layout their personal designs built around the story they want to tell and begin assembling. The second day, we will finish sewing the designs, and put on the finishing touches. Students are welcome to bring personal fabric, materials, and small trinkets that will help to make their story quilt more meaningful.
Experience with using sewing machines and dexterity for hand sewing are required.

For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:
**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.
All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
