Plein Air Painting & Drawing

For this workshop, we will be focusing on the great outdoors! All levels of artists are welcome to come and practice the traditional technique of en plein air painting and drawing. Students can choose their medium of choice, either drawing or painting (or both!) to create their art. We will venture outdoors to either Oberlin main square or simply the front of the Arts Center to find our inspiration, weather permitting. The students will be taught to use viewfinders to find their composition and will practice observing and mixing colors to match their subject matter. This will be a fairly open program, with the instructor giving advice for painting outdoors along with opinion and critique at the start of the session and continuing with students on an individual basis while working. Water-based paint and some drawing materials will be provided, but students can feel free to bring their own supplies. Students should be sure to bring a sketchbook!

If weather should prohibit outdoor class it will be moved inside or rescheduled.

scholarships & aid

FAVA reviews and considers all application for scholarship assistance. While we may not be able to provide a complete scholarship to all those who request it, we are committed to making our classes available to as many people as possible – regardless of individual financial circumstances. For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:

  • Annual family income
  • Individual or special circumstances
  • Whether the applicant qualifies for the National Free/Reduced Price School Lunch program
(for students age 18 & younger)

**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.

All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
