Pencil Drawing (online course)

AGES: 12-16

(6 Video Sessions via Zoom)

In this online class, instructor Louis Cunningham will teach students about pencil drawing and its many applications across the artistic spectrum. All artists need to know drawing, whether they work in paint, sculpture, or even photography. Pencil drawing is one of the cornerstones of artistic development. A solid understanding of drawing with basic shapes, advanced shading technique, understanding form, and visualizing a concept are the key to making progress in art. In this class students will learn many of the applications of pencil drawing, as well as about the pencil itself and the different types there are.

Materials needed: paper, pencils (either regular or special drawing pencils will suffice).

Links to Zoom video sessions will be shared with students via email each week.

Louis Cunningham

Louis Cunningham is a full-time elementary art teacher with Lorain City Schools, and this is his third year working with FAVA! Before moving to Oberlin, Louis lived and taught in New Jersey, where he grew up. He attended Montclair State University in NJ, where he received both a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art and a Master's Degree in Art Education. Louis is especially adept at illustration and cartooning, and his favorite medium is pen and ink, though watercolor paints are a close second favorite!
