Acrylic Painting

January 18 – March 8

(8 sessions) Wednesdays 4:00–5:30pm.

$205 /$187 for FAVA members

This class will address various aspects of the painting process, including drawing,
color theory, technique and composition. The online meetings will consist of
instruction, demonstrations, presentations of historical and contemporary art and
group discussions about the students’ work. Students will be given assignments
for studio exercises, sketches and small paintings on paper or canvas which will be
completed primarily at home. Students may choose landscape, interior view or
still life for subject matter, while different treatments -- from representational to
abstract -- will be optional.

Students will be responsible to provide materials:
-Soft body acrylic paints (2 oz. size; Liquitex brand recommended) in the following
required colors: Cadmium Red medium; quinacridone magenta; cadmium yellow med.;
cadmium yellow light; pthalocyanine blue (green shade); ultramarine blue (red shade);
titanium white; mars black
-8 oz. bottle matte medium
-Disposable palette paper
-9x12 inch pad of drawing paper,
-Synthetic bristle brushes - 1 round sz.5 and 1 flat sz.4
-9x12 inch pad of Bristol paper or watercolor paper (optional)
-Color Wheel (several versions are available; any version will do)
-Stretched canvas, 9x12 in. or 11x14 in. (optional)

Jean Kondo Weigl

Jean Kondo Weigl is a painter and has taught several classes in drawing and painting at FAVA for adults and teens. Having received a BA in Art from Scripps College, an MA in Studio Art from Oberlin College and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah, Jean’s teaching experience includes positions at Oberlin College, the Lorain County Community College, Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her work has been exhibited in numerous local, regional and national shows and she is the recipient of grants from the Ohio Arts Council, Zygote Gallery and Press and the Yaddo Foundation. Originally from Oakland, California, Jean currently lives and works in Oberlin

scholarships & aid

FAVA reviews and considers all application for scholarship assistance. While we may not be able to provide a complete scholarship to all those who request it, we are committed to making our classes available to as many people as possible – regardless of individual financial circumstances. For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:

  • Annual family income
  • Individual or special circumstances
  • Whether the applicant qualifies for the National Free/Reduced Price School Lunch program
    (for students age 18 & younger)


**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.

All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
