The Art of Mask Making
Ages 12+
October 4, 11 from 6-8PM
Embrace the Spirit of Halloween: The Art of Mask Making with Oliver St. Clair** In an era characterized by the prevalence of mass-produced items, one might question the merit of settling for the ordinary when the opportunity exists to create a truly unique piece that embodies one's individuality. While purchasing a mask from a retail establishment presents a convenient option, it cannot rival the profound satisfaction and joy derived from the process of crafting a personalized masterpiece. Join artist Oliver St. Clair as she guides participants through the enriching experience of constructing a paper mache mask. This endeavor promises not only to captivate your imagination but also to serve as a poignant reflection of your personal identity. Additionally, this class will delve into the fascinating realm of textures, utilizing acrylic paint, various acrylic mediums, and supplementary paper elements. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with diverse techniques, enabling them to add dimension through raised patterns or to achieve a smooth finish that beautifully reflects light.

Oliver St. Clair
Of both Okinawan and Irish lineage, Oliver is part of a long line of visual and musical artists. As a child, she learned traditional Japanese ink wash from her grandmother, which eventually developed into a focus on watercolor painting. Further into adulthood, she explored additional paper-based artistic practices including lithography, letterpress and book binding. More recently, fibers-based work became the primary means for Oliver to express her vision of nature and our emotional world, while also fostering community in teaching. Always finding ways to infuse beauty into the world, Oliver also focuses her creative energies into commissioned projects, floral arrangements and tending to her garden.
