Outdoor Community Mural Project

Introduction

FAVA, in collaboration with the City of Oberlin, is seeking proposals from experienced mural artists to create a community and family-friendly outdoor mural on the textured concrete wall of the north-facing alley wall of the Blue Rooster Bakery. This project aims to enhance the visual appeal of the area and foster a sense of community through public art.

Project Details

• Location: Blue Rooster Bakery, Oberlin, OH
• Wall Specifications: Textured concrete, up to 18 feet long by 13 feet high
• Theme: Community and family-friendly designs
• Materials: All materials should be weather-resistant and suitable for long-term outdoor exposure

Project Timeline

• RFP Issued: July 10, 2024
• Proposal Submission Deadline: August 7, 2024
• Selection of Artist: August 14, 2024
• Project Commencement: No later than September 1, 2024 (artists may start immediately upon selection)
• Project Completion: No later than September 30, 2024

Proposal Requirements

Artists interested in this project should submit a proposal that includes the following:

• Artist Information:
  • Name, address, phone number, and email address
  • Brief biography and artist statement
  • Experience with outdoor murals, highlighting relevant projects
• Design Concept: A detailed description of the proposed mural design
  • Visual sketches or digital renderings of the proposed mural
• Portfolio:
  • Photos and descriptions of at least two completed outdoor mural projects
  • References from previous clients or project sponsors
• Budget:
  • Itemized cost breakdown, including materials, labor, wall preparation (priming), and sealant application
  • Total price for the completed mural
• Timeline:
  • Estimated start and completion dates
  • Detailed project schedule

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Artistic merit and relevance to the community/family-friendly theme
• Experience and qualifications of the artist
• Feasibility and clarity of the proposed budget and timeline
• References and portfolio of previous work
• Overall impact and sustainability of the mural

Design Jury Process

The submitted designs will be reviewed by a jury composed of community members, art professionals, and representatives from FAVA. The jury will evaluate the proposals based on the aforementioned criteria to select the most suitable design for this project.

Maintenance Plan

A detailed maintenance plan and instructions will be requested from the chosen muralist to ensure the longevity and preservation of the mural.
