Introduction to Printmaking
Ages 12+
Tuesdays May 27-July 1
6-8pm
Explore the rich and versatile world of printmaking in this 6-week introductory course. Each week, we’ll dive into a different printmaking technique, no prior experience needed! Students will learn about materials, tools, and printing methods while creating their own original prints.
- · Week 1: Monoprints - painterly one-of-a-kind prints
- · Week 2: Relief printing - carving and printing from a linoleum block
- · Week 3: Intaglio - drypoint etching using recycled materials
- · Week 4: Collagraph - building textured plates from found and recycled materials
- · Week 5: Chine collé - create a more complex image using a mulberry paper background
- · Week 6: Open studio - develop your favorite process, complete projects, and print

Rachel Mentzer
Oberlin-based artist, Rachel Mentzer, enjoys using found and recycled materials to create unique artwork. Her work often focuses on the interaction between nature and humans as it integrates recycled materials into the image. As a printmaker, she enjoys working in collagraph and intaglio. Rachel is a local teacher and is excited to share her technique with others.
scholarships & aid
FAVA reviews and considers all application for scholarship assistance. While we may not be able to provide a complete scholarship to all those who request it, we are committed to making our classes available to as many people as possible – regardless of individual financial circumstances. For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:
- Annual family income
- Individual or special circumstances
- Whether the applicant qualifies for the National Free/Reduced Price School Lunch program
(for students age 18 & younger)
**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.
All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
