“I Am, We Are” Individual and Collective Identity Collages - Fall 2025
For all ages and artistic levels!
Sundays from 1 -3 pm, November 9 and 16
In this two day class, we will explore collage techniques to express our identities. Our first class will focus on ourselves and the second class will focus on our community. As we work, we will explore questions such as, “What are my individual identities? How do my individual identities contribute to the community? Who are we as a community? What are qualities that we as individuals need to develop to build vibrant communities? What do virtues such as love, justice, and unity have to do with the relationship between each individual and community?” Come express yourself with us! There will be an opportunity to show your artwork and thinking at The Oberlin Public Library in the weeks following the class, if you wish to.

Sarah Porter Cruz
Hi! My name is Sarah Porter Cruz and I grew up in Oberlin taking FAVA art classes. My favorite subject in high school was Art! After graduating from The Residential College at The University of Michigan, I lived in California and taught elementary school for 20 years. I am so happy to be back in Oberlin with my family! In my profession of teaching I have integrated the arts wherever possible, as they are essential to human happiness and the betterment of the world. They are also a universal language that helps promote bilingualism and understanding, and I celebrate that.
scholarships & aid
FAVA reviews and considers all application for scholarship assistance. While we may not be able to provide a complete scholarship to all those who request it, we are committed to making our classes available to as many people as possible – regardless of individual financial circumstances. For this reason, it is important that all scholarship requests are received well in advance of the class starting date, so we may allocate our available funds accordingly. We may consider any of the following factors when determining eligibility for scholarships:
- Annual family income
- Individual or special circumstances
- Whether the applicant qualifies for the National Free/Reduced Price School Lunch program
(for students age 18 & younger)
**FAVA also encourages applicants to consider partial scholarship assistance, in which case the student only pays some portion of the class tuition.
All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely to determine the amount of scholarship assistance to be provided.
