Awful Offal

Magazine collage, crayon

Alexander Aitken

Artist Statment:

My background is that of a printmaker and photographer, usually combining those media with drawing. However, the works I have submitted for this exhibition are primarily collages made from magazine photographs, and came about as I was spending my social distancing time at home sorting through magazines. With COVID19 being the reason for my distancing isolation, I gravitated to using images related to the pandemic and the political figures responsible for what decisions had be made to date, hopeful expressed in a serious, yet humorist manner.

Bio:

Aitken has a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Ohio University. He retired from teaching photography at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, Lorain Community College, and Printmaking at The Cleveland Institute or Art

His work is included in many collections including: The Cleveland Museum of Art, Kent State University, and Cleveland State University’s Marshal School of Law.
